On this occasion, we supplied Northern Ireland’s leading materials supplier and construction company, FP McCann, with a new 5 m × 1.8 m × 3.5 deck asphalt screen for their Mallusk depot.
Following discussions with FP McCann’s senior management, the customer selected two imbalance motors in place of a conventional shaft assembly arrangement, as this solution offers reduced maintenance requirements and improved operational efficiency.
Once our preliminary designs had been approved by our client, Finedoor proceeded with the manufacturing and final testing at its Halifax works. The screen was also supplied with a new dust encapsulation cabinet and front chute arrangement.

FP McCanns commented, “We have other Finedoor screens with our other organisations, which over the years of ownership have proven very reliable and durable. Finedoor also totally understand our requirements from the beginning.”
Our Head of Engineering at Finedoor commented, “The introduction of the two imbalance motors was, from an engineering standpoint, a far more streamlined design solution. This development opens the door for us to consider imbalance motors as a future alternative to the traditional shaft drive in our screens. Something that has been part of our ongoing design improvements whilst working alongside some of our long-term customers.
Most importantly, regardless of the specification, environment, or unique requirements our clients present, our engineering approach remains the same — we design around the customer’s needs. Flexibility and bespoke performance are at the core of everything we produce.”
