Finedoor has recently completed the design and manufacture of a new asphalt screen, dust encapsulation canopy, hot bins, weigh hopper, and pumped oil systems for The Shetland Islands only asphalt plant.
The quarry has been operating since 1935 and is now owned and operated by The Shetland Island Council, producing some 100,000 tonnes of crushed rock per year with approximately 50,000 tonnes passing though the asphalt plant on an annual basis.
Once the manufacture was complete, the screen, complete with its pumped oil unit was tested within our works prior to dispatch on three trailer loads for the long journey north by road and sea. Finedoor was also contracted to undertake the installation work which included the removal of the asphalt tower roof, existing screen, canopy, hot bins, and weigh hopper. Fortunately, the weather complied and allowed the installation of the new sections.
The Pumped Oil Lubrication System was supplied containerised, to maintain a clean environment during operation. This was positioned adjacent the asphalt tower, where solid feed/return pipes were installed.
The quarry manager commented, “Finedoor provided an excellent service and completed the work in a timely manner, given the complexity of the task. As is often the case with projects of this nature, there were a few minor issues; however, Finedoor addressed these immediately, despite our very remote location. I have no hesitation in recommending their services to others.”
Andrew Firth, Finedoors Managing Director, commented, “Once again this showcases Finedoors ability to understand our clients’ requirements, deliver quality products, and undertake challenging installations. I would like to thank the gentlemen at Scord Quarry for their hospitality, which was greatly appreciated. I would also like to thank my colleagues who worked professionally and tirelessly during their five-week stint away from family and friends.’
